Dear Readers, This is Dave Bahr, voice and founder of In-Sightful Living. I am being certified as a life coach through the Coaches Training Institute (CTI) www.thecoaches.com I will delve more into what coaching is and what it is not, but for now, let me just say that I am really excited to be starting this new career journey. Coaching is a powerful way to make positive change; it’s not therapy, it’s not consulting, it’s somewhere in between the two. In simple terms, if therapy asks why you are the way you are, and consulting asks you how you should do something and presents ideas as to your next step, coaching is somewhere in the middle, taking both approaches and weaving them together to show you the person you want to become. And so the central question to a coaching relationship is, I think, “what do you want”
So, a little bit about how I came up with the idea for my company name, Present Momentum Coaching. I hold a masters degree in musicology. Musicology, in a nutshell, is the cultural and historical study of music. I chose the name because I have always been fascinated by the idea that, even if you play the same 3 notes for 45 minutes straight, those 45 minutes have elapsed, you can’t take them back. So those notes, even if they are the same ones that you started playing 45 minutes ago, still are moving forward in time. Hence, you are in the present, but you always have to have momentum going forward. I think that’s all the philosophical writing I will do for now. I hope to have many more posts in the future so stay tuned, don’t touch that virtual dial! Until next time, keep on conducting your life’s music. Dave Bahr
